The Wider Curriculum
At Richard Hill we have looked forensically at the Wider Curriculum to ensure depth and breath of all subjects in all year groups. In the Foundation Stage the wider curriculum from Development Matters is built into their themes and this can be found on their Long Term Plan. For the rest of school the model changes and the children move away from thematic learning to learning subjects in blocks. We feel this gives greater opportunity for the children to be immersed in the subject and for greater challenge. We also believe that this helps to make sure the children are not cognitively overloaded and they can build effective schema for essential knowledge and skills being committed to their memory.
